In the mid 1990s, a man named Alberto “Beto” Perez was teaching an aerobics class in Cali, Columbia. One day he found himself in a tough spot – he’d forgotten his class music tapes. After scrambling through his backpack, he found a few salsa and merengue tapes and decided to improvise a new type of dance exercise class on the spot. In that moment, what is now known as the worldwide Zumba exercise craze was born!
