Best Train Ride For Kids – Best of New Hampshire - New Hampshire Magazine

“Great for kids and adults!... The building and trains were clean and the staff was very helpful! We will be back as soon as we can!” - Bellabean - Tripadvisor.com

“We had a blast watching the scenery pass us by as we rolled along the rails, while hobo clowns entertained us with family friendly antics.” - Burn W. - Yelp.com

The locomotive-powered railroad in the United States dates back to the early 1800’s and it has played a significant role in the development of our great nation. Majestic trains traveling through the countryside with smoke billowing from their stacks continue to capture the imaginations of children of all ages and for decades have been re-created in miniature in living rooms and basements across the country by passionate “engineers.”

Today’s deal gives your child (and the child within you) the chance to climb aboard New Hampshire’s own Hobo Railroad for a couple hours of family fun as you travel through a natural woodsy setting along the twisting “Pemi” River, just minutes away from Franconia Notch. For only $7, half off the regular fare, you can experience an excursion that, according to New Hampshire Magazine, “proves that the fun is in the journey, not the destination.”

The Hobo Railroad Trains all leave from the classic styled Hobo Junction Train Station on Rt 112 in Lincoln, NH. From there you’ll pass through “Hobo Hills Miniature Golf,” go over the rocky East Branch of the Pemigiwasset River on a two span trestle, cross “Powerline Crossing,” see the “North Pole” used during their December production of the famous Polar Express and other interesting sights.

They even make a stop at the Café Lafayette Dinner Train for a few minutes for folks interested in picking up a popular “Hobo Picnic Lunch” for the hour and 20 minute journey. There are also plenty of opportunities to buy a snack aboard the train if you get hungry along the way.

Along with the conductor’s narration, there is also entertainment. Trains have family-friendly entertainers along on the trip who make the experience even more magical. Be sure to bring a camera and call ahead to find out the schedule of performers for the trips you are interested in.
