Bittersweet Blessings is a country gift shop with a focus on primitive décor. It is a pleasant shopping experience that is tranquil, yet exciting. The shop features homey displays of country comforts such as candles, stitcheries, homemade soaps, antiques, linens, garlands, lighting, stationery items, Gooseberry Patch books and Robert Rothschild dips, to name a few.

They carry a few different lines of pottery, some from New Hampshire and one from the Midwest. Bittersweet Blessings pride themselves in their efforts to carry locally made items and their displays are full of items from local artists whose abundant talents greatly enhance the shop. These items include primitive dolls, furniture, jellies, maple syrup, dip mixes, table runners, floral items, wooden signs, and more.

Conveniently located in Chester, near the Derry/Chester line on Route 102, the shop is set back from the road with ample parking, surrounded by picturesque woods with a quiet stream running alongside the property.

Co-owners Michelle Stein and Barbara Stein (daughter-in-law & mother-in-law, respectively) have enjoyed frequenting local country gift shops for several years and both absolutely enjoy the quest for just the right accent piece to complement their homes. Their love of country furnishings and décor (not to mention shopping!) has inspired them to embark on the adventure of opening their own country gift shop.

The name Bittersweet Blessings comes from Barbara’s minor obsession with bittersweet vine. She has enjoyed decorating her house with it over the years, and her grown sons (fondly?) remember her making them ride around the countryside snipping the vines in the fall, while hoping they weren’t trespassing on someone’s land. The word blessings in the name was integral to their philosophy of gratitude and gratefulness for the many wonderful blessings in their lives - mainly families, friends, health and those little comforts that make us all smile.

Bittersweet Blessings is a refreshing change of pace from the high stress, artificial experience most of us have had while shopping. These $25 vouchers would make the perfect stocking stuffer for someone who appreciates unique quality and old-fashioned New England hospitality.
