Cowabunga!

While most of us associate that exuberant word with turtles trained in the martial arts and a rather rambunctious yellow fourth-grader, it’s origins actually date back quite a few years to a character named Chief Thunderthud on the then popular television program The Howdy Doody Show. More than fifty years later, the word continues to be shouted on playgrounds, in gymnasiums, and in backyards as an expression of excitement, surprise, and fun.

When designing Cowabunga’s, owner Kelly Pearson solicited information from the community. “We wanted to create a place that draws in all ages.
